RWE has commissioned the 47.2MW Serra Palino onshore wind farm in Italy's Puglia region, less than a year after construction began.

The project sits in the municipalities of Sant'Agata di Puglia and Candela, in the province of Foggia. According to RWE, it comprises eight 5.9MW turbines and can generate enough renewable electricity to meet the needs of roughly 40,000 Italian households.

The commissioning takes RWE's installed renewable capacity in Italy to approximately 670MW, as first reported by reNEWS.

Paolo Raia, country chair of RWE Renewables Italia, said delivery within a year of the start of construction was "an achievement we can be truly proud of". He credited the work of everyone involved.

Further capacity in the pipeline

Raia added that RWE has about 200MW of additional wind and solar capacity under construction in Italy.

The company currently operates 18 onshore wind farms, one solar photovoltaic plant and three agrivoltaic facilities in the country. RWE says this installed portfolio can supply green electricity to more than 550,000 households.

RWE is active in the development, construction, operation and marketing of wind and solar projects across Italy.
