Nordex has secured its first turbine order in New Zealand, with Mercury selecting the manufacturer for a wind farm on the South Island.

Mercury has ordered 40 N133/4.8MW turbines, with a combined capacity of 192MW, for the Puke Kapo Hau project in the Otago region. The two companies have also signed a 30-year service agreement.

As first reported by reNEWS, current plans for the project include the use of local contractors for crane services, installation and final run activities. Installation of the first turbine is scheduled to begin in early 2028.

## Market entry

Mercury chief executive Stew Hamilton said the project marked "the next phase" of the company's wind energy development and that it was pleased to partner with Nordex to deliver new generation for New Zealand.

Hamilton noted that Nordex has had a significant presence in Australia for many years. He added that Mercury was happy to support a new wind technology supplier in the New Zealand market.

Alberto Perez, managing director of Nordex Australia, described entering New Zealand with Mercury as its first customer as an important step for the Nordex Group. He said New Zealand has excellent wind resources and ambitious renewable energy opportunities, which make it a very attractive market for the company.
